From July 16-18, Justus-Liebig University (Giessen, Germany) is hosting “Web as Culture: Ethnographic, linguistic and didactic perspectives”. This international symposium will tackle the processes and practices of constructing and perpetuating memories, knowledge, language, social structures and cultural narratives in the World Wide Web.

“Web as Culture” brings together forty international scholars from a variety of disciplines, all interested in researching the WorldWideWeb’s cultural spaces, and thus provides an excellent platform to present and discuss latest developments in research. A highly interdisciplinary range of papers approaches the conference topic “Web as Culture” from the perspectives of media studies, linguistics and education, as well as ethnology, sociology and philosophy.

The programme is organised into three major thematic blocks focussing on networks, didactics and languages. Keynote lectures will be held by Prof. Dr. Henning Lobin (Justus-Liebig University, Giessen), Prof. Dr. Angelika Storrer (Dortmund University), Prof. Dr. Manfred Faßler (Goethe-University, Frankfurt a.M.) and Prof. Steven L. „Web as Culture” is organised by the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture’s (GCSC) Research Area “Language, Culture and the New Media”, as well as Justus-Liebig University Giessen’s Centre for Media and Interactivity (ZMI).
